Nicole Ari Parker is an American film TV and stage actress who is known for her role as the fiery attorney Teri Joseph on the Showtime show Soul Food. Nikki Kodjoe became her stage name following her marriage. Born and raised within Baltimore Maryland. In her early years as a child, she displayed an interest in acting and won the Best Actress Award in a Maryland High School competition. She earned her acting degree at New York University after working in the Washington Ballet Company' and performing in the theatre. The Incredibly True Adventure of Two Girls in Love was her first big role. This was followed by movies including 'Boogie nights Spark' as well as Blue Streak. After attending boarding schools during seven years of London, her family relocated to Toronto Canada in which she lived for much of her early years as well as her early years of adulthood. Contractor was a classical ballet student in Toronto. She also excelled academically. She studied at the Etobicoke School of the Arts in Toronto, an arts school that focuses on theater and dance. When she was 16 after a decade of years of dancing, Contractor discovered she was looking to take up acting as a profession. After she completed high school with a full tuition scholarship to University of Toronto where she was a theatre student with a dual degree in psychology and Sociology. Contractor landed her first role following her first year at university. Her work was highly acclaimed throughout the 92 productions which she was a part of. She was awarded the 2002 award for the most outstanding production of the Year from Canadian critics. The actress accepted an invitation to attend Stratford's conservatory. It is a place which allows just four men and eight females can attend a 20 weeks crash training in classical theater. Contractor's place in the following play season was secured and she was chosen as Hermia.
